Retina Diseases
Your retina is essential to clear vision, and when problems arise, expert care makes all the difference. At DC Retina, our specialist brings years of advanced training and experience to diagnose and treat a wide range of retinal conditions with precision and compassion.

Fluorescein
Angiography
An intravenous fluorescein dye test that maps blood flow in the retina to find leakage, blockage, or ischemia. Commonly used for diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and macular degeneration complications.
Indocyanine Green (ICG) Angiography
An intravenous indocyanine green dye test that uses near-infrared light to image the choroid (the layer beneath the retina). Helpful for polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, central serous chorioretinopathy, and certain macular degeneration subtypes.

Diagnostic Ocular
Ultrasound
A non-invasive ultrasound that evaluates the eye’s internal structures, especially helpful when the view is obscured by cataract or hemorrhage. Used to detect retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, tumors, and more.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
A non-contact scan that creates high-resolution cross-sections of the retina and optic nerve. Essential for macular conditions (like edema, holes, or AMD) and for assessing optic-nerve health in glaucoma.
Fundus
Photography
High-quality color photos of the retina and optic nerve to document and track changes over time. Useful for diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and choroidal nevi.

Macular
Degeneration
AMD causes gradual loss of central vision, making it difficult to read, drive, or recognize faces as the macula deteriorates.
Macular
Edema
Swelling of the macula from fluid accumulation, often caused by diabetes, vein occlusions, or inflammation, blurring central vision.
Macular
Hole
A small break in the macula causing distorted and decreased central vision, typically requiring vitrectomy surgery for repair.
Macular
Pucker
Scar tissue on the retinal surface causes wrinkling of the macula, leading to blurred or distorted central vision.
Central Serous
Retinopathy
Fluid accumulation under the retina, often stress-related, causing blurred or distorted central vision with a dark spot.
Branch Retinal Vein
Occlusion
Blockage of a branch retinal vein causing sudden vision loss in one area, often with bleeding and swelling.
Central Retinal Vein
Occlusion
Blockage of the main retinal vein resulting in sudden, painless vision loss with hemorrhages and macular edema.
Retinal Artery
Occlusion
BRAO & CRAO also called an “eye stroke” where blood flow is cut off, producing sudden, severe vision loss.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetes damages retinal blood vessels, causing leakage, bleeding, and vision loss that requires ongoing monitoring and treatment.
Degenerative Myopia
Severe nearsightedness causes stretching and thinning of the retina, increasing risks of tears, detachment, and macular degeneration.
Retinal
Tear/Detachment
Separation of the retina from underlying tissue requiring urgent surgical treatment to prevent permanent vision loss.
Vitreous Detachment
(Flashes and Floaters)
Natural aging of the eye’s gel can cause floaters and flashes, sometimes leading to a retinal tear.
Complications of Cataract
Surgery
Post-surgical complications including macular edema, retinal detachment, or endophthalmitis requiring prompt specialized intervention.
Penetrating Ocular
Trauma
Eye injuries penetrating the globe that may damage the retina, requiring immediate emergency evaluation and surgical repair.
Cytomegalovirus (CMV)
Retinal Infection
Viral retinal infection in immunocompromised patients that can rapidly destroy retinal tissue without treatment.
Uveitis and Infectious
Retinitis:
Inflammation of the uvea and retina causing eye pain, redness, light sensitivity, and potential vision-threatening complications.
Intraocular
Tumors
Abnormal growths within the eye, including melanomas and other tumors, requiring careful evaluation, monitoring, and treatment.
Inherited Retinal
Disorders
Genetic conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa causing progressive degeneration of retinal cells and gradual vision loss.
Pediatric and Neonatal
Retinal Disorders
Retinal conditions in infants and children, including ROP and inherited diseases, requiring early detection and specialized treatment.
